The steps to use a VFL are as follows: Step 1: Remove the plastic connector covers from both ends of the test fiber cable. Step 2: Connect the optical fiber cable troubleshooter to one end of the fiber. Press the test button and watch if light emerges from the other end of the fibre. This gives a simple indication of the continuity of the fiber optic connection. Step 3: Repeat with several other fibers. Pay attention to light emitting from a faulty connection. This can be an easy way to visually troubleshoot bad connections or connections. Step 4: Disconnect all devices, put the plastic covers back on the connector ends and return everything to the state it was in before starting the practical exercise so that the next group can complete the hands-on exercise completely. Instructions for using a VFL: 1. Never look directly into the output of the VFL. 2. Cover the output of the VFL with the dust cap when the VFL is not in use. 3. Not recommended for use with dark colored or armoured cables.
